DIPAYAL: Twelve persons died and 28 others sustained injuries after a jeep bound for Silgadhi from Sajhghat fell off the road and landed 350 metres below, at Sirma, in Khirsain VDC, Doti at about 9:30am on Wednesday.
Of the deceased, seven persons had died on the spot, two while being flown to Nepalgunj for treatment and as many while being rushed to the district hospital and one more during the treatment at the Dipayal-based Sujang hospital. District police office has identified the deceased as Bhagi Eir (38), Tulasidevi BK (28)and a 11-month baby Dhansari Bhul of Khirsain, Junu Bista and Tek Bahadur Thakulla of Bagalek, Riya Bogati (12) of Kadamandau, Gauridevi Khadka (35), Tulasi Bohara and Khiru Bohara of Gairagaun, Pata Bhandari of Gajari and two other children whose identities are yet to be ascertained.
Two of the seriously injured are now undergoing treatment at the Nepalgunj hospital, 18 others at the Sujang hospital and eight more at the Silgadhi-based district hospital. Of the injured receiving treatment in different hospitals in Doti, the condition of 12 is learnt to be critical. The accident site is 13kms from Silgadhi.
Immediately after the accident, a police team from the district police office had reached the site and carried out the rescue work. Police said the accident might have occurred as the jeep was carrying passengers in excess of its capacity.
