KATHMANDU: Members of the Nepali Congress-aligned Nepal Student Union with allegiance to senior NC leader Sher Bahadur Deuba have said they will form a parallel panel if party president Sushil Koirala continues to remain tight-lipped over the resignation of 28 NSU central committee members from their fold.

The NSU members had tendered their resignation to party president Koirala a month ago. Subsequently, the 28 members, at a meeting held on April 27, decided to hold meetings under the chairmanship of Rishikesh Jung Shah.

Shah said, “If the resignation issue remains unresolved, we will hold a national assembly of NSU cadres and form a parallel committee within the union.” He said union members of the Deuba faction have decided to send their representatives to 75 districts to boost their local organisation and organise training programmes. Shah further said they were also scheduled to launch students’ awareness programme in all campuses of Tribhuvan University to press the latter to hold Free Students Union elections.
