KATHMANDU: Prof Dr Govinda KC today announced fresh hunger strike from tomorrow in his bid to prevent political appointments in the Tribhuvan University’s Institute of Medicine (IOM).
Tribhuvan University, in the midst of KC’s hunger strike against political appointments, had, on July 10, appointed Dr Kumud Kumar Kafle as IOM’s Dean, a post that had remained vacant for months. Kafle retires tomorrow.
KC has repeated his demand for merit-based appointments and corruption control in the institute. Kafle has recently sent a list of eligible candidates for the post of Dean to the Vice Chancellors Office, but Tribhuvan University Registrar is learnt to have sought a separate list of nominees with political alignment.
Taking exception to the government’s initiation to appoint the dean on the basis of political affiliation, KC announced the fresh hunger strike.
Political appointments in government-run educational institutes have taken a toll on the institutes.
