KATHMANDU: Senior leader of the Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba has stated that his party should not join the national consensus government.

Such statement fell from Deuba’s mouth at a time when two NC leaders – Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Surya Man Gurung—have joined Baburam Bhattarai’s cabinet along with nine others from United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) and the UCPN-Maoist as a part of the five-point deal reached among the four major political forces.

“The party leadership ship focus on resolving internal disputes inside the party first,” said Deuba emerging from the meeting of Deuba camp held at Singha Durbar on Sunday.

“How can we send our representatives to the government while the thorny issues in the statute have not been settled,” the former Prime Minister Deuba wondered.

It would be like putting cart before the horse, Deuba further said.

Sitaula and Gurung were sworn in by Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai on Saturday night but they have not been assigned any portfolios.
