DAMAK: Over Rs. 10 billion is estimated to be invested in the country's dairy sector so far. Employment opportunity in dairy sector is increasing day by day with an increment of investment as compared to other sectors.
According to Nepal Dairy Association, the contribution of dairy sector to country's gross domestic product is nine per cent.
The market of dairy products is expanding day by day leading to high possibility of employment opportunity, Association General Secretary Prahlad Dahal said.
Over 45,000 people across the country are involved in dairy sector, he added. Now, time has come to promote the dairy sector and commercialize it, he said.
According to data provided by the Association, at present, over 500 dairies are in operation across the country. The Association has said that it has started discussions about the problems in the dairy sector with dairy entrepreneurs.
The dairy sector in Nepal is still have the lack of skilled human resources and needs attention and subsidy from the state.
He stressed the need of revising the Dairy Policy-2064 BS and carrying out research and study for the promotion of dairy sector.
He said 17 dairies are associated with the Association's Jhapa chapter. They supply is over 20,000 liters of milk in a day.
