KATHMANDU: Women rights activists on Monday demanded that equal rights be ensured for women in every sector. Narayani Tiwari, president of Centre for Research and Development for Women’s Access said the country has forgotten women’s contribution to establishment of democracy in the country. She accused political parties of only focusing on political power and forgetting the serious issues of the country. Addressing a programme on Development of Women’s Access: Challenges and Obligation, she said women should work in unity to pressure the government for equal rights and should raise their voice against discrimination.

Brown sugar seized

KATHMANDU: Three persons were arrested with six packets of brown sugar each weighing seven to nine grams in Dhumbarahi on Monday. Laxman Simkhada (29), of Salyankot, Dhading and two others including Tilak BC (22), of Silankha of Dolakha district were found trafficking the illegal drug. Police also impounded a scooter Ba 25 Pa 3425 from them.

Scooter rider hurt

A scooter and a Maruti van collided at Pradarshani Marg on Monday morning and the scooter-rider Shree Nath Ghos was injured. Ghos has been admitted to Model Hospital with injury on his right leg. Gosh is a resident of Lazimpat. Police have seized both vehicles and arrested the van driver.

Pillion rider injured

KATHMANDU: Sumana Napit (25) who was riding pillion on a scooter was injured when a microbus (Ba 1 Ja 8664) hit the scooter on Monday morning. Napit is a resident of Indrachowk, Kathmandu Metropolitan City ward 25. She was brought to Bir hospital with minor head injury. Police have seized both the microbus and scooter.

Guard found dead

KATHMANDU: A man wearing the uniform of Group Four security guard was found lying on the ground at Jaisideval Dhungedhara on Sunday afternoon died while undergoing treatment at Bir hospital on Monday. Bhim Bahadur Gurung (45), of Takukoth-3, Gorkha district was brought to the hospital after locals found him lying unconscious.
