LONDON: Everton signed Belgium forward Kevin Mirallas from Greece’s Olympiakos on Sunday as a partial replacement for attacking midfielder Jack Rodwell, who left for Manchester City last week. The Liverpool-based side have agreed a four-year deal with the 24-year-old Mirallas, who moves for an undisclosed fee although media reports put the amount around $9.41 million. “I am very happy because Everton is a big club,” he said in a statement from the Premier League side, seventh last term. Mirallas, who featured for Belgium in last week’s 4-2 friendly win over the Netherlands, scored 20 goals in 25 appearances for Olympiakos last season.
Song close to move
london: Arsenal have agreed terms with Barcelona to sell Cameroon international midfielder Alex Song to the Spanish side for $23.36 million, the Premier League club said on Saturday. Song, 24, will travel to Spain to agree personal terms and have a medical before finalising the move, Arsenal said on their website. Last season’s La Liga runners up Barcelona said the player would sign a five-year contract. Song will take his medical on Monday.
Bosingwa joins QPR
LONDON: Portuguese defender Jose Bosingwa, one of two Chelsea players sent off in a stormy 1-0 defeat at west London neighbours Queens Park Rangers in October, joined the Loftus Road club on a three-year deal on Friday. The 29-year-old, twice a winner of the Champions League, moved to Rangers on a free transfer after being released by Chelsea following their European triumph last season. Bosingwa also won the Champions League with Porto in 2004.
Ibrahimovic ruled out
PARIS: Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss Paris Saint-Germain’s French league match at Ajaccio after failing to recover from a right foot injury. PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti said on Saturday that Ibrahimovic had picked up the injury in last week’s season opener against Lorient, which ended 2-2 after the Swede scored two goals to salvage a draw. Ibrahimovic, who joined last month from AC Milan, is a major loss for the team.
