KATHMANDU: The Special Court on Tuesday released former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Surendra Pal and suspended Inspector Lal Govinda Shrestha on general date without any bail in the Sudan Scam.
The two had presented themselves before the court to face the corruption charges against them.
After recording their statements, a joint bench of three judges chaired by Gauri Bahadur Karki conducted a hearing today itself. The bench ruled that based on the prima facie evidecences the duo’s involvement in the corruption in purchase of armoured personnel
carriers (APCs) for the Nepal Police’s peacekeeping mission in Darfur of Sudan under the UN flags could not be established, and thus shall be released on general date.
Out of 36 accused, 32 including Pal and Shrestha have showed up at the Court to defend the charges against them till today.
