KATHMANDU: Facebook, the most hyped social networking site, helps connect millions of people. However, it has also triggered animosity among mutual friends.

Take the case of two 12th graders — Kushal Poudel of Xavier College in Kalopul and Suman Khadka of NIST College in Lainchour.

Police today had a hard time trying to prevent untoward incident after Khadka and seven other classmates, brandishing a khukuri turned up at Xavier College ‘to teach Poudel a lesson’.

The college administration called the police after Khadka and others tried to find Poudel to attack him for allegedly defaming the NIST student through Facebook. Tension flared up on the college premises.

They were Facebook friends and used to comment on each other’s status.

On receiving information, police had reached Xavier College to prevent a clash between the rival groups.

Police said eight persons including Khadka were arrested with a khukuri at around 1:00 pm.

However, officials refused to disclose the objectionable content on Facebook that had almost caused violent confrontation.

An investigation is under way.

Though nothing can be commented on the news story without getting the detailed information regarding the face book comments, yet it's sad to learn that young 'students of college' 'brandish khukuri' to teach the lesson to the rival. What morality these so called students bear seems quite puzzling. A barbaric culture amidst these pupils appear to have bigger influence and, most importantly, to my reading this type of 'modernity' which does not become anyone among us , has something to do with the stat apparatus and style of their ruling. kishor Dahal, Now Chabahil, Ktm
