KATHMANDU: Chic, stylish yet comfortable — does this describe your style sense? Well if it is, then here is just a hub for you to do your shopping — the lane from Tangal to Bhatbhateni.

Variety galore

As you walk from Tangal, right from a pet shop to a cafe, you will come across a variety of stores that is stocked with everything from traditional attire to casual attire for both males and females, accessories, cosmetics, and more.

The Royal Aqua Pet store has been here for 10 years and has seen many changes in the area. About the store Sandesh Devkota, a staff here shares, “We deal in gold fish, tropical fish and aggressive fish as well as all the required items necessary for keeping a pet fish on wholesale and retail basis.”

A few steps down the lane you come to designer store Much N’ More Creation that has on display varieties of traditional attires for ladies like salwar-kurta, designer saris, lehenga, lachha and more. This is not the only store dealing in traditional ladies wear here. You can find around 10 stores that deal in traditional attires.

At the Bhatbhateni Fashion Centre, you can find both traditional and casual attires for ladies. Likewise, stores like Annie’s, Spencer Fashion Store, Lipsy deals in modern attires for ladies that includes party wear, fancy wear, casual wear and formal wear. For men’s wear stores like Buckle Men’s, Ginger and more can cater you with modern casual and formal wear. You can also find cosmetic shops, electronic store and more on both sides of the lane.

Knowing the stores

At Much N’ More Creation you can get heavy embroidered traditional attires where Usha Nuepane, owner as well as the designer shares, “We are specialised in bridal wear, traditional attires like lehenga, salwar-kurta, saris and kurtis.”

Here you can see various deigns in saris like lehenga saree, mumtaz saree, mermaid saree and embroidered in materials like net, georgette, chiffon and crepe where “mumtaz, mermaid and lehenga saris are ready-to-wear saris”, explains Nuepane.

These saris are imported from India.

Meanwhile, the saris at Bhatbhateni Fashion Centre are made in the store’s own factory at Bhaktapur according to Ishwor Rauniyar, owner of the store. Here you can get lehenga saris which can be worn as a skirt without the need for a petticoat. You can also get your own customised lehenga saris where you can choose you favourite colour as well. “Within 10 days the lehenga saris are ready,” assures Rauniyar about the time it takes for an order to complete.

Both stores provide the facility of a trial room and stitching of your traditional dress.

The stores here are spacious and have attractive displays. The products at Annie’s are brought from Hong Kong and Bangkok, according to owner Mandira Gurung where “you can get all the necessary items for ladies from shoes to bags, cosmetics to accessories and more”.

They bring in new stock once a month.

Likewise, at Buckle Men’s you get everything that a man could possibly want in his wardrobe like under garments, gloves, socks and more. About the products here Ujjwal Pyakurel, a staff here shares, “The products are from Thailand, Vietnam, Switzerland and more. And the sizes available here are from small to XXL.”

Moreover, in these stores you can get from 10 to 35 per cent discounts looking at the regularity of the customers.
