KATHMANDU: A delegation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) arrived in Kathmandu for a series of meetings with the US Embassy, Nepali government officials and civil society leaders.
The delegation has James Parks, who served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal from 1982 to 1984, as its leader.
This is the first visit of the MCC delegation to Nepal since the announcement in December that Nepal was selected for development of what it called a ‘Threshold Programme’.
According to the US Embassy, the delegation will introduce MCC and the Threshold Programme to the government, civil society groups and donor organisations and will gain background information about the economic issues facing Nepal. The programme aims to assist a country in becoming eligible for MCC’s large assistance programmes, called compacts, by supporting targeted policy and institutional reforms through a country-specific programme.
