Kidney Disease Victims Struggle Committee had decided to start the relay hunger strike from today after their problems were not heard

KATHMANDU: Kidney patients have started relay hunger strike from today at Ganeshman Shanti Batika in the capital by putting forth 11-point demands.


The demands include providing financial assistance of one million rupees to kidney patients, who are preparing for transplanting kidneys, in a lump sum, one should be allowed to donate organ on their own will, a system of transplanting kidneys of those after their brain death should be implemented immediately, haemo dialysis centers be operated in every district, among others.


Kidney Disease Victims Struggle Committee had decided to start the relay hunger strike from today after their problems were not heard though they had familiarized their problems to Minister for Health and Population Rajendra Mahato on March 26.


Representative of the Nepal Kidney Society, Ramesh Chalise, said that they were compelled to launch the relay hunger strike as problems of kidney patients were not listened to even if the Society had frequently familiarized Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav and Health Minister Rajendra Mahato about the problems of the victims.


Now, around 27,000 people are suffering from one or another type of kidney diseases in Nepal.
