Govt urged to take action against LPG gas frauds

KATHMANDU: Chief whip of CPN-UML parliamentary party, Bhim Acharya has said that a joint effort of the Nepal Oil Corporation, dealers and entrepreneurs could free the sector from all irregularities.


Speaking at an interaction organised by Nepal Gas Dealers' Federation, Nepal and LP Gas Industries Association here on Monday, he said illegal changing of foot ring in gas cylinders is a dangerous act, and called upon the government to take stern action against those involved in it.


President of the Federation, Sawarmal Agrawal said if the NOC determines a quota as per the number of cylinders, it would resolve more than ninety per cent of the problem.


General Secretary of Consumers' Federation, Jyoti Baniya said the dealers have been selling five to 10 per cent less than the actual weight of cooking gas, and said the changing of foot ring in the cylinders was highly dangerous to the people.


Gyaneswar Aryal of Gas Dealers Federation said the NOC and the Government would still quiet over the dealers paying with the lives of people.
