KATHMANDU: The team members of Great Himalayan Trail-Climate Smart Celebrity Trek were felicitated here in the Capital on Friday evening.

The Himalayan Climate Initiative honoured veteran mountaineer Apa Sherpa, mountaineer and tourism entrepreneur Dawa Steven Sherpa, climate champion Saurav Dhakal and photographer Samir Jung Thapa amid a function today.

Also, Dhakal was declared a youth icon for his participation in the trek as an exempleary climate champion.


The team led by Apa Sherpa had completed the 1555-km long east-west expedition in 99 days.

Though Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai was scheduled to honour them, he could not attend the function due to recent political developments in the country. Due to the prime minister's unavailability, National Planning Commission Vice Chairman Dr. Deependra Bahadur Chhetri presided over the function.

Chief Secretary Madhav Ghimire was also present on the occasion.
