Lord Krishna is revered as the eight incarnation of Lord Bishnu.

President Dr Ram Baran Yadav visited Krishna Mandir of Patan Durbar Square at 8 am and received prasad and tika from the priest.

KATHMANDU: Hindu devotees are thronging Krishna temples across the country today to observe Sri Krishna Janmashtami festival, the birthday of Lord Krishna.

Revered as the eight incarnation of Lord Bishnu, the almighty was born in Dwapara Yuga on the 8th day of the dark half of the month of Srawana as son of King Vasudeva and Devaki of Mathura.

Hindus, especially devotees of Lord Krishna, fast throughout the day by consuming only fruits and milk products and singing devotional songs dedicated to Lord Krishna.

President Dr Ram Baran Yadav visited Krishna Mandir of Patan Durbar Square at 8 am and received prasad and tika from the priest.

Thousands of devotees are queuing up since early morning to the temple built by King Siddhi Narasingh Malla.

When there was monarchical rule in the country, the then kings used to visit the temple.

Government has declared public holiday to mark this day.

Krishna Pranamis and society of Krishna consciousness also taking out processions on the streets carrying idols and images of Krishna.

Radha Krishna Rath Yatra will be taken out from Biratnagar tomorrow.

Meanwhile, people in the Far-western region are observing the Gaura festival today.
