Ilam shut down to protest severe power cut

KATHMANDU: Locals have called Ilam Bazaar bandh today against the blackout they have been witnessing for the past eight days.
Power supply to thirty VDCs in the district including two VDCs in Panchthar has been disrupted following the damage in power transformer.
Lightning had struck the substation based in Tilkeni last week, damaging its power transformer.
Irate locals also padlocked the Nepal Electricity Authority´s branch office in the district today.
Due to disruption in power supply, publication of the district headquarter-based Ilam Post, Sandakpur and Ilam Express have been halted.
Likewise, the Ilam FM and Nepal Bani FM have also stopped broadcasting.
Besides, activities at the government offices, electronic shops and mobile phone services have also been affected.
