KATHMANDU: Visiting Indian Army Chief General Bikram Singh paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai at the latter's office at Singha Durbar, Wednesday.
During the meeting, matters relating to mutual interests and bilateral relations and cooperation were discussed.
The meeting that ran for around half an hour also focused on the possible assistance from the Indian Government to the Nepal Army, it is learnt.
Talking to media persons briefly after the meeting, Indian Army Chief General Singh said that he had come to Nepal with the greetings and best wishes from the Indian government, Indian army and the people to Nepal and he was happy to have an opportunity to meet Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai.
Responding to a query by journalists, Mr Singh said the Indian Government gives special significance to the Nepal-India relations and his visit soon after his appointment as army chief has proved this.
A process of providing assistance to the NA will be initiated as per the policies of both the countries, he said.
On the occasion, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Jayant Prasad was present.
Indian Army Chief General Singh had arrived here on a five-day official visit on Tuesday, at the invitation of Chief of Army Staff Chhatraman Singh Gurung.
