SRINAGAR: The Indian army says it has killed at least three suspected rebels in a raid in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir.
Lt. Col. J.S. Brar says at least three soldiers were wounded Friday in an exchange of gunfire with the suspected insurgents in Maidanpora village in the Indian portion of Kashmir.
He says another two suspected rebels are holed up in a house and the fighting continues.
There has been no statement about the events from rebel groups fighting for Muslim-majority Kashmir's independence from India or its merger with Pakistan.
Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan, which have fought two wars for its control since they won independence from Britain in 1947.
