KATHMANDU: The Special Court on Tuesday has convicted Dharmabir Paswan, an Indian national, of money laundering and imposed a year’s jail sentence on him.
Paswan the defendant was arrested from the Janakpur Railway Station in possession of Rs 2.05 million on October 19 last year.
A division bench of Justices Gauri Bahadur Karki and Om Prakash Mishra issued the verdict, with the conclusion that the money confiscated from his possession was white money.
In the verdict, the judges ruled that the money will be confiscated and told the convict of paying a penalty of equal amount.
Paswan had claimed that he was going to return the money borrowed by his father from one Prakash Jung Rana of Janakpur.
According to the court, no proof was found to establish that the claim that the money was withdrawn from Rana’s god mother Jamariya Kurmini’s bank account to lend to the Paswans.
