Infant dies one hour after measles vaccine

BAJURA: A nine-month old infant has died one hour after receiving a measles vaccine in Budhiganga VDC -1, in the district on Monday afternoon.
The deceased is Sujan Saud, son of Tul Bahadur Saud of Budhiganga VDC. “My son, who could suckle and was agile, started loitering immediately after Gauri Singh administered him measles vaccine and passed away after one hour on my lap,” lamented victim’s mother Parma Saud.
Infant had taken ill due to pneumonia one week ago. The real cause behind the minor’s death is yet to be identified, said Gorakh Nath, in-charge at Budhiganga Health Post.
District hospital’s doctor Hridaya Bibhu Ghimire, however, does not immediately agree to associate the death with the vaccine. “The minor has not died because of the vaccine rather it might be due to some other complications with the child itself,” he said.
A team of medical persons has been sent to the incident site to look into the case.
As many as four infants had died after receiving measles vaccine in Doti few weeks ago.
