KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today called on all the political parties to resolve problems through dialogue and respect people’s right.
Urging the political parties to sort out differences, the rights watchdog said, political deadlock had stalled the peace and constitution-drafting processes.
It also made an appeal to the UCPN-Maoist to withdraw their May 1 demonstration and indefinite strike in the following days saying the Maoists’ call for the demonstration and general strike had instilled fear in the general public. NHRC also urged the Maoists to shun anarchic activities.
Stating that closure of schools puts future of thousands of students in peril, NHRC requested the Maoist-aligned student union to call off the strike at the earliest. It has also appealed the concerned authorities to take necessary steps to help open the schools.
