JANAKPURDHAM: Poor garbage management in Janakpurdham has turned the historical, religious and tourist town filthy.
Unmanaged drainage systems, pot holes on the streets and garbage on roads have deteriorated the city’s beauty.
“The town produces 17 tons of garbage every day but it is not well managed as we lack dumping site”, said Executive Officer of the Municipality Badri Krishna Shankhadev.
Janakapurdham, the capital of the ancient Mithila kingdom of Rajarshi Janak, the birthplace of Sita, the spouse of Lord Ram is a major tourist destination in Eastern Nepal.
More than 700,000 people annually visit the ancient city. It is a major destination for Indian tourists. Around 80 percent tourists are form Indian states of West Bengal, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh.
