KATHMANDU: Japanese Prof Dr Ryuichi Yatabe has been declared as the Nepalese Goodwill Ambassador.
The Lumbini Development Trust declared Dr Yatabe as a goodwill ambassador to Nepal with an objective to carry out the publicity of the Visit Lumbini Year-2012 in Japan.
Prof Dr Yatabe, who is also the Executive Director of Ehime University of Japan, is a civil engineer especially in the field of disaster management and development.
The Japanese professor is expected to support for extending invitations to foreign tourists especially the Japanese in Nepal through publicity campaign of the historical, religious, and cultural aspects of Lumbini in Japan for a year.
He has made various researches on disaster and development in Nepal for last few years and had prepared the master plan for the development of Lumbini some 34 years ago.
Coordinator of the Visit Lumbini Year-2012 and Minister for Federal Affairs and Culture Gopal Kiranti, handed over the certificate to Yatabe amidst a programme in the capital today.
Minister Kiranti said declaration of Yatabe as a goodwill ambassador was a milestone to make the Visit Lumbini Year-2012 a grand success.
Kiranti also assured to implement the master plan developed by Prof Dr Yatabe for the development of the Buddhist religious center, Lumbini.
Speaking at the programme, Dr Yatabe promised to leave no stone unturned for the publicity of the historical and cultural importance of Lumbini by utilising his experiences.
Dr. Yatabe had arrived in Nepal in 1993 for the first time and has visited Nepal for 22nd times so far.
