SOLUKHUMBU: Nepali Congress central leader Bal Bahadur KC today challenged the Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist to conduct fresh Constituent Assembly poll on November 22.
“The Maoist-led government has declared Constituent Assembly election unilaterally and thereby violated all the prevailing laws of the land. Thus, I challenge the Maoists to hold the Constituent Assembly election on November 22,” KC said at a gathering organised by Nepal Student Union, sister wing of the Nepali Congress in Salleri of Solu district.
Noting that the Constituent Assembly had failed to promulgate a new constitution in four years, the Nepali Congress leader absolutely ruled out the possibility that a newly-elected CA would be able to deliver the statute.
KC alleged that the UCPN-Maoist had won the last Constituent Assembly election by unleashing terror and intimidating the general public through weapons and violence.
In a different context, KC made it clear that it was quite impossible and impractical to federate the country along ethnic lines. He also urged CPN-UML cadres to break off all kinds of ties with Maoists. KC called on the media to help safeguard democracy and democratic institutions.
KC accused the Maoists of clinging to power though the President had made it cleat that the incumbent government was a caretaker one.
