Kaski village initiates commercial animal husbandry

A total of 29 cows and 20 goats have been kept and 165 liters of milk is collected from 17 milking cows every day.

POKHARA: A cooperative at Ghachowk VDC in Kaski district has started commercial animal husbandry and tomato cultivation,


The Taribhure Agricultural Cooperative established seven months ago with the purpose of attracting youths in agriculture occupation has started rearing of cows and goats, and tomato cultivation at Ghachowk VDC, Ward No. 3, nearly 30 kilometers north from Pokhara.


A total of 29 cows and 20 goats have been kept and 165 liters of milk is collected from 17 milking cows every day. The milk is sold at Rs 32 per liter in the local market.


Chairman of the Cooperative, Toyanath Lamsal Bairagi, said that over Rs. 150,000 income is made from the milk per month. The cooperative has targeted to rear as many as 50 cows and five dozen goats.


Similarly, tomato cultivation is done by preparing eight tunnels with the total investment of Rs. 400,000. The members of cooperatives said that they have planned for organic tomato farming using cow dung and its urine.
