KATHMANDU: Kathmandu and Lalitpur advanced to the final of the Wai Wai Under-19 Regional Selection Cricket Tournament of Region-III (Kathmandu) here at the TU Stadium on Thursday.
Kathmandu hammered Nuwakot by 148 runs to finish first in the table with six points, while Lalitpur outplayed Bhaktapur by nine wickets to advance to the final as runner up with four points. Bhaktapur earned two points, while Nuwakot returned winless in the four-team tournament. The final is on Friday.
Batting first, Kathmandu were bowled out for 214 runs in 27.5 overs and packed Nuwakot for a meager 66 in 23.4 overs. Opener Aayush Jung Rana top scored for Kathmandu with 36-ball 39 including five fours, while the other opener Indra Kamal Manandhar struck four fours in his 37 off 35 balls.
Bijay Gautam (30), skipper Sunam Gautam (29) and Prajesh Bahadur Singh (26) also scored valuable runs for Kathmandu, whose total was bolstered by 26 sundries. Rajesh Shrestha (5-32) and Dipendra Pyakurel (5-46) completed their five-wicket hauls for Nuwakot.
In reply, only No 8 batsman Kumar Sherpa (12) scored in double figure for Nuwakot. Suyash Aryal and Jagat Chhetri took three wickets each, while man-of-the-match Bijay Gautam claimed two for Kathmandu.
In another match, Bhaktapur were all out for 120 in 29.4 overs before Lalitpur surpassed the total losing one wicket in 17.1 overs. Rajan Karki top scored for Bhaktapur with 41 off 51 balls including three boundaries. Jeevan Lamsal (16), Ram Krishna Jaiswal (16) and Madhav Shrestha (13) were the other batsmen to score in double figures.
Sharad Khadka took 4-29, while Jeeba Lal Bhattarai and Dipendra Shah claimed two each for Lalitpur. In reply, Lalitpur openers Sharad and Ujjwal Thapa scored 94 runs in 13.4 overs to give Lalitpur an easy win. Sharad hammered 10 boundaries in his 58-ball 63, while Ujjwal – the only wicket to fall at the hands of Purushottam Jha — scored 36 off 34 balls including four fours. Pawan Shrestha remained unbeaten on 10.
