Keys to happiness

SANTOSH K.C.

Are you happy most of the time? If you are then you are different from most people, because research on happiness shows we spend the majority of our days and nights in a neutral or unhappy state. It appears that the majority of us only experience happiness about 30 percent of the time. Happiness is sporadic and fleeting. No wonder information about how to find it is so valuable. Happiness is one thing we all want. But we only experience it occasionally, and the feeling always fades. Happiness is a choice and the products of a lot of things that are going on in our life.

What exactly is happiness? Is it a state of being or something we can actually find or pursue? Or it is something we can achieve through achieving higher awareness or a higher consciousness level? Or is happiness only really an attribute of love, so that the more we give and receive love, the more happy we are? Or may be happiness is only just like being positive or negative , and we need to strive to be happy by trying to change our attitude to be happy. What then is happiness really? What is the answer and explanation for happiness and the secret for us to achieve happiness in our lives? What is the truth about happiness? Are all my above questions partly right in their way, or where in fact does the real answer to our being happy lie? Define happiness is to reveal one’s inner self. Your definition of happiness describes how you see the world, what you value most, and your emotional being. For many people happiness is based on their success, possessions and monetary status of life. For others true happiness comes from inner peace, love, compassion and family.

My definition of happiness is what I feel when I have made someone laugh or smile when their day has been stressful or filled with anxiety or turmoil. Knowing that I may have helped ease their burden, makes me happy. Different people may define happiness differently. Some will define it as a temporary feeling and others as something lasting. There are people for whom life is a journey leading to the ultimate goal which is happiness. Others chose the way of pursuing materialistic wealth and think that happiness will settle in their minds after buying an expensive car or having a private jet. It is only your decision what your definition of happiness will be. We spend our days in relentless pursuit of happiness when all have the keys now to being happy and we have always held the keys. Happiness does not come from outside us. Happiness is an inside job.

So if you want to be happy, truly, focus on these three emotions, gratitude, love and awe. Keep your mind on these and happiness will be yours.
