Khanal fires back 'child arrogance' shot at PM Bhattarai

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai’s effort to pull around the caretaker government was tantamount to childish arrogance.
Alluding to Dr. Bhattarai’s recent statement that the demands for his resignation by the opposition parties was irrational and childish, Khanal wondered why the caretaker prime minister was being childish and refraining from forging the national consensus at the time the country was witnessing a political and constitutional crisis.
Speaking briefly to the media personnel at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital after visiting Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel, who has been receiving treatment there for pneumonia, Khanal urged the Maoist leader to pave the way for national consensus by stepping down at the earliest in order to resolve the present crisis.
After returning from Brazil yesterday, Dr. Bhattarai had said that the prime minister’s post was not a toy at the beck and call of children, and that the opposition’s demands for his resignation was but childish arrogance.
Khanal sarcastically said that even if the prime minister would have brought in "some might and information (signal)" from Rio de Janeiro that would not work in Nepal, asking the the latter to keep this in his mind.
According to the UML chairman’s personal secretary Rambabu Adhikari, besides wishing a speedy recovery to Paudel the leaders held a brief discussion on the country’s present political situation.
