KATHMANDU: A senior Maoist minister on Tuesday warned of a revolt if the ethnic identity-based federalism is not adopted in the new constitution.
Gopal Kiranti, who looks after the Ministry for Federal Affairs, Constituent Assembly, Parliamentary Affairs and Culture, suggested the top leaders of major three parties not to dare making decision against the ethnic federalism.
According to him, the leaders — UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala and CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khana l— will not even get a piece of land to stand upon if they went against the formation of autonomous states with ethnic identity.
Speaking at a media interaction programme here in the Capital this afternoon, the Maoist minister announced to sacrifice his life for the cause.
He maintained that there should be at least 11 states as per the recommendations of the Constituent Assembly’s Committee for State Restructuring.
According to him, the Maoist party’s relationship will be break up if pressure is piled up for eight states.
Kiranti further claimed that the Dr. Baburam Bhattarai-led incumbent government will promulgate the new constitution.
