Koirala accuses CPN-Maoist of cold-shouldering four forces

NARAYANGARH: Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala today accused the CPN-Maoist of bypassing four major political forces — the Unified CPN-Maoist, NC, CPN-UML and United Democratic Madhesi Front — whom the Mohan Baidhya-led party describes as ‘four-party syndicate’.

Talking to mediapersons, the NC chief said, “We (four parties) have never ignored the CPN-M; as a matter of fact it’s the CPN-M which is giving a cold shoulder to us.”

Koirala added that the four forces had agreed to hold a round table conference, as sought by the CPN-M, but ‘all their demands are not acceptable to them’. The other demands of the CPN-M include postponing the election, scrapping of the 11-point agreement and 25-point presidential order and resignation of Khil Raj Regmi as chief justice, among others. The Baidhya-led party has even been saying that a constitution can be written without a Constituent Assembly.

On a different note, Koirala said that the Constituent Assembly would prepare a draft constitution in six months and promulgate a new constitution within a year from the election. He held that the CA election must be held on November 19 at any cost. “Postponing the announced election surely invite a disaster. The election must by held on the stipulated date,” Koirala added.

The Congress chief maintained that the country would head for polls at any cost, even if the those opposing it, including the CPN-M, decided not to take part in the election process.
