KATHMANDU: Employment Permit System (EPS) Nepal office, a section of Ministry of Labour and Transport Management (MoLTM), is taking Korean Language Test (KLT) examination on August 28-29. The exam will select 4,000 EPS aspirants for the year 2010 and 2011.
Nepali citizen born between August 30, 1971 and August 29, 1992 can apply for the KLT, the first step toward a lucrative job in South Korea. The applicant should not have criminal history. “There are not specific academic requirement for the applicants,” Mohan Krishna Sapkota, director general of Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) said, “But they must pass KLT exam with good score.”
South Korean Human Resource Department (HRD) has allocated 4,000 quotas for Nepali blue-collar jobseekers in the total EPS quota of 24,000. Fifteen least developed countries are sending unskilled workers in South Korea under EPS. EPS Nepal office is distributing application forms for KLT on June 15-18 from Dashrath stadium, Tripureshwor from 9am to 6pm. “Application form will be distributed freely,” he said. EPS Nepal and HRD South Korea have set $ 17 for the KLT fee. Applicants have to pay Nepali rupees equal to the fee, he explained.
KLT examination is divided into two segments––listening and reading–– with weight of 200 points applicant should have to acquire 40 per cent to pass the exam. “Applicant who has secured high score will get a chance to apply for employment in South Korea,” he said.
EPS Nepal is planning to publish the result of KLT on September 30, 2010. Around 4,000 applicants securing best results will be listed in EPS roster for further processes. South Korean companies select workers from the roster as per their need.
Last KLT exam was held on March 29, 2008 and 32,000 Nepalis had appeared for the exam. A total of 6,768 applicants had passed the Korean language proficiency test. According to EPS Nepal, around 4,600 EPS aspirants have been working in South Korea since August 2008. South Korea is a lucrative destination for Nepali migrant workers where a worker can earn up to $1,000 monthly.
