KATHMANDU: Officials from Department of Drug Administration (DDA), Department of Commerce (DoC), and Kathmandu Metropolitan City today inspected five drug stores in Lagankhel area.

The surprise inspection was undertaken after DoC suspected over the standard maintained by these pharmacies, said Padam Poudel, drug inspector at DDA.

“These drug stores have failed to maintain pharmaceutical norms and values,” Poudel said. The drugs were not systematically managed, he added.

During the inspection, the team also monitored the quality of food in the canteen at Patan Hospital.

“We have told them to present themselves before DDA within three days with clarification,” said the drug inspector.

DDA will caution them the first time and keep monitoring them to see whether they are following instructions, he added.

The six-member investigation team also comprised representatives from consumers group and police.

There are about 14,000 pharmacies registered with the DDA.
