KATHMANDU: As an endeavor to resolve the present political deadlock, UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal sought CPN-UML boss Jhala Nath Khanal’s assistance in forging consensus among the political stakeholders, who have been polarised since the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly (CA) on May 27.
Dahal went to Khanal’s residence in Dallu early morning on Thursday and asked Khanal to help him in resolving present political crisis and promulgate a new constitution by forging consensus on all unsettled issues related to the new constitution.
During the meeting which lasted for one and half hours, the former premier Khanal asked Prachanda to admit the mistake Maoists made by dissolving the CA and declaring fresh polls without consulting other parties.
According to Khanal´s personal secretary Ram Babu Adhikari, Khanal also advised Dahal to urge Prime Minster Dr Baburam Bhattarai to step down and create an atmosphere for consensus.
While the government’s unilateral decision to dissolve CA has intensified the rift and mistrust among parties, today’s meeting between Khanal and Dahal is the first one after the dissolution of CA.
The alternatives to bring back the dissolved CA to life can be sought only after the formation of the national consensus government, Khanal told Maoist Chair during the meet.
Prachanda, who earlier saw no alternative to the fresh polls which would elect a new CA, is now prioritizing on the resurrection of the CA.
