Nepal is naturally prosperous, but economically lagging behind. A prosperous society refers to the set of development infrastructure including the efficient and timely delivery of services to the people of the country. People should be creative thinkers and deal each other with a positive attitude.
The first hindrance to form a prosperous society, especially in our case, is the absence of a supportive environment that the societies themselves have created since long. First of all individuals should be determinant to change the mindset and creatively follow the development foot-steps of the best practices. We should be serious to construct durable and reliable infrastructure to serve community people in a sustainable way. The society turns prosperous, if they start working on the sustainability of the roads, hospitals and schools in their society.
Rule of governance applies to everyone including the law makers and the ordinary citizens. Sometimes, we can see some ministers and high level police officers ignore traffic rules and do not bother to stop vehicles even if red light is on. This creates disrespect among the citizens toward law makers.
We can see numbers of instances once we talk about civilised society that may include the proper maintenance of the road, follow the traffic rules either you are driving vehicles or are a pedestrian, keep surrounding clean, feel a responsible citizen of a society and perform accordingly, turn off the tap if water is running out, switch off the street lamps during day time if it is on, maintain environmental sustainability if you are the cause and; so on.
If you are determinant to act this way, it won’t take much time to change our society into a prosperous one. If a person is hospitable and honours others in the society, it directly indicates one step ahead for forming such a society.
Simple indicators of a prosperous society include high rate of employment; enrolment in schools and colleges; availability of sufficient foods, home, clothes, drinking water, electricity, medical services; access to information and justice; respect each other and honour other’s dignity, et cetera. If people have positive attitude then any development work for the society can be easily timely accomplished. Will power is the most important factor for everyone including law makers and general public.
Government should provide working environment to the people. Everyone should utilise the free time doing productive activities. For the improvement in economical condition, instead of importing goods from other countries, we must try to produce goods in our own country. It has two benefits, one is to meet the local demands from domestic products resulting in less dependence on outsiders and the other is to gain more foreign currency by exporting goods.
