KATHMANDU: The UCPN-Maoist Standing Committee on Friday decided to flexible on the nomenclature and demarcation of federal states.
The Standing Committee meeting held at the Maoist Parliamentary Party office in Singha Durbar this afternoon decided to entrust the to-be-formed Pradhesh Sabhas (state assemblies) with the authority to name the states by themselves.
Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal briefed the meeting that the party is for eight to 11 federal states if the state-restructuring issue is resolved through an agreement.
The party, however, will stand for the 14-state model should the issue is put for voting.
The Maoist SC meeting preceded the meeting of major political three parties and United Democratic Madhesi Front.
