MAHENDRANAGAR: CPN-UML Secretary Shankar Pokharel today held the Unified CPN-Maoist party and Dr Baburam Bhattarai’s refusal to step down from power responsible for the deposed king Gyanendra Shah’s recent utterances.
Speaking at a press meet, Pokharel said, “The constitutional and political crisis created by the UCPN-M has emboldened the former king to make such remarks.”
In a national television on Monday, Shah’s claimed that there was a deal between the political parties and him that the country would have constitutional monarchy.
Urging journalists not to give the former king’s religious trip with too much importance, Pokharel, warned Shah of seizing of all his property should he fail to mend his ways.
“It is true that political parties have failed to meet people’s expectations, but the revival of monarchy could in no way fulfill people’s aspirations,” Pokharel said, adding resurrection of the monarchy is an out-and-out chimera now.
On a different note, CPN-UML leader pointed towards the danger of the emergence of lawlessness in the country with the caretaker government further remaining in power. Instead, he called for a consensus government to end the prevailing constitutional crisis.
“If the Nepali Congress can’t propose its candidate to head such a government, we are ready to suggest our own candidate,” he added.
