KATHMANDU: The UCPN-Maoist establishment on Friday decided to send party Vice Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha and leader Post Bahadur Bogati in the unity government-in-the-making.
Shrestha was a deputy prime minister and minister for foreign affairs in the outgoing government, while Bogati was energy minister.
A meeting of the Maoist Standing Committee members close to party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Vice Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai held at Dahal’s residence in Lazimpat decided to send the two to the cabinet for the time being. The SC members loyal to dissident leader Mohan Baidhya did not take part in the meeting.
As per the five-point deal struck by the major political forces last night, the unity government will be formed within two days in Dr. Baburam Bhattarai’s premiership.
According to the understanding among the Maoist party, Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and United Democratic Madhesi Front, a 21-member cabinet with the participation of four representatives each from them and four from fringe parties will be formed.
The agreement has on it that Bhattarai will have to resign before May 27 in order to facilitate the formation of another government in the leadership of Nepali Congress.
