The traffic witnessed a chaos in the area following the arson

KATHMANDU: People set fire on a microbus in Lainchaur of Kathmandu after it ran over a pedestrian and killed him on Friday afternoon.

The victim is identified as Tulasi Khatri (60) of Lazimpat, according to ASI Kaji Gurung of Lainchaur Police Post.

After the incident, a critically injured Khatri was rushed to the Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, where she was pronounced dead.

Eyewitnesses said that the vehicle hit the victim infront of the Dairy Development Corporation in Lainchaur before the driver fatally backed and ran the vehicle, jam-packed with passengers and heading to the west, over the woman at around 1 pm.

Passersby then pelted stones at the vechile and set it ablaze.

Earlier it was reported that the victim was a man.

The traffic witnessed a chaos in the area following the arson. Later, the security forces contained the fire and resumed the vehicular movement.

Police said they have detained the driver, Deepak Gautam (21) of Dhading, and are looking into the case.
