KATHMANDU: Goalkeeper Pramod Thapa made two spotkick saves as Mulpani ‘A’ claimed the Jaya Nepal Cup Football Tournament title defeating Suntol 4-2 in tie-breaker here on Sunday. The match was pushed to penalty shootout after both teams failed to break the goalless deadlock in the normal time. Pramod was adjudged the man-of-the-final, while Suraj Thapa of Suntol won the best defender trophy. Mohan Thapa of the Kathmandu Municipality Ward No 9 was declared the best midfielder and Anil Thapa, who had scored three goals, of Mulpani ‘A’ became the highest scorer. Danchhi ‘B’ was awarded with fair play trophy.

Sudesh goes down

KATHMANDU: Nepali boxer Sudesh Manandhar Sudesh Manandhar has been crashed out of the World Boxing Championship following a humiliating loss at the hands of Cuban boxer Ramirez Robeisy in the men’s 52kg category in Baku, Azerbaijan on Sunday. Sudesh, who had earned a walkover win from Cambodian opponent Long Lamda in the first round on Monday, went down to Ramirez in Referee Stop Contest (RSC). Sudesh had conceded nine points without scoring in the first round and was crashed out in the beginning of the second round. With this, Nepal’s participation in the Championships, which was also the 2012 Olympic Qualifying, had been ended. The lone medallist of the 16th Asian Games was crashed out of the tournament earlier.

Football tourney

RAMECHHAP: Likhubhuji Ramechhap Youth Club and Hupinchuli Yuvalaya are organising the Bhuji Lagi Running Shield Football Tournament here from October 15. Top two finishers will receive Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively.

Festival of Football

LALITPUR: Nepal has won the hosting right of the 2012 AFC U-14 Festival of Football South Region slated for May 10-25. The Under-14 teams from the hosts Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Bhutan will participate in the tournament, informed the All Nepal Football Association at a press release on Sunday.

Bista, Newa removed

KATHMANDU: The Republican Sports Federation of Nepal, a sister wing of the UCPN Maoist, have taken action against their outgoing vice president Rana Sangram Bista and secretary general Mahesh Newa for breaching the federation rules and regulations. The executive committee meeting has decided to remove the duo from the general members after they were involved in forming new federation and punishing some executive committee members, said the federation chairman Jayandra Bahadur Chand at a press conference. Bista and Newa on Friday have formed a new committee under the presidency of Bista.
