MYAGDI: In the wake of threats from an underground outfit and the government's inability to provide security to them, all 21 VDC secretaries working in this western district tendered their resignation to LDO Bishnu Prasad Pokharel.
“We resigned fearing for our lives,” they said, pointing at a letter from Sanyukta Jatiya Mukti Morcha general secretary Muktidata that urges the VDC secretaries to resign or face consequences. In its letter, the outfit has pledged to form a 'people's government' for good governance and accused Brahmin-dominated parties of trying to revive the monarchy and the 1990 constitution. The outfit has urged all to unite against a Brahministic state.
The 21 secretaries had been looking after 41 VDCs of the district.
Central secretary of the VDC Secretary Right Protection Centre Damodar Ghatane said the VDC secretaries quit their jobs after the government paid no heed to their repeated pleas.
CDO Ram Bahadur Kuruwang said, “The resignation will not be accepted,” claiming, “They will resume their duties from Sunday.”
