KATHMANDU: A Nepal Army (NA) helicopter which was assigned to airlift the dead body of the slain Tarun Dal leader Shiva Prasad Paudel to Chitwan, failed to make a steady landing at Bharatpur Airport due to bad weather on Tuesday.
It has been reported to us that the NA chopper was obliged to land at Devghat, the confluence of the Kali Gandaki and Trishuli rivers, near Narayangarh, where Shiva’s funeral rites would be performed after awhile.
Before Shiva’s body was airlifted to his home district, NC president Sushil Koirala, along with other leaders paid a last homage to his mortal body at the TU Teaching Hospital.
Paudel was critically injured in an attack by the CPN-UML’s Youth Association Nepal (YAN) cadres inside the Chitwan District Prison on December 6.
He was in a judicial custody in the prison on charge of the murder of the local YAN leader Sanjay Lama.
He died at Neuro Hospital in Kathmandu during the course of treatment on Saturday morning.
NC had even enforced a bandh following the death of Paudel on Monday demanding government to withdraw ‘false cases’ filed against him and declare Shiva a martyr.
