BIRATNAGAR: Activists of the Nepali Congress clashed with the Unified CPN-Maoist cadres in Urlabari of Morang today, leaving three NC activists and two Maoist cadres injured.
Condition of Maoist People’s Volunteers’ Urlabari Chairperson Susan Limbu is said to be critical. He was hit on the head and is undergoing treatment at the Biratnagar-based neuro hospital.
According to NC Urlbari president Birbal Thapa, a group of 50 to 60 Maoists led by Susan attacked the house of NC area president Khadga Fago today. He added that
situation got worse after NC activists lodged a police complaint demanding action against those involved in the attack.
Ganesh Upreti, assistant district in-charge, UCPN-Maoist, claimed that the NC activists attacked a Maoist cadre over a trivial issue. According to the police, NC cadres had picketed Susan’s house some days back.
Morang CDO Taranath Gautam said local administration had taken initiative to resolve the dispute.
Police had to fire seven rounds in the air and one tear gas shell to bring the mob under control.
According to Morang police chief Pradhumna Karki, an additional force led by Inspector Keshav Bhattarai of the Area Police Office of Pathari had to be called to
assist the Urlabari police. Three motorbikes were set ablaze in the clash.
Police have detained Nepali Congress area president Khadga Fago, NC activists Durga Fago, Kabinam Fago, Narayan Sitaula and Raj
Kumar Yadav. They have
also impounded 15 motorbikes.
