NUWAKOT: Nepali Congress Central committee member Arjun Narsingh KC today said his party would not accept ethnicity-based federalism at any cost.
Speaking at a programme at Samari-based Bindukeshar Higher Secondary School, KC clarified that Congress cannot agree to the idea of carving out states along ethnic lines as it would lead to disintegration of the country.
“States should be common to everyone regardless of people’s ethnicity, religion or class,” he argued. “As the erstwhile Hindu country was given a secular identity to respect the existence of all religions, the same should apply to federal states and no one should be treated differently just because of their ethnicity.”
On a different context, he said issue of state restructuring should be settled through voting if political parties fail to reach consensus in that regard. “Though political parties had earlier agreed to form six to eight states, they are now acting on their own way by violating the agreement,” he alleged.
