LALITPUR: Central member of the Nepali Congress party, Arjun Narsingh KC said on Friday that the seven-point agreement between the Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal and chairman of UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal has the hidden motive of thrusting ultra-leftist authoritarianism in the country.
Inaugurating the Fourth District Convention of the Nepal Press Union Lalitpur chapter today, leader KC said the democratic forces should join hands in defeating this strategy of capturing power by attacking the democrats in the name of left-democrat polarization.
He said promulgation of the constitution would hold no meaning unless all past agreements are implemented and also called on the media to be alert against this.
At the programme, Nepali Congress CA members Shovakar Parajuli and Ram Krishna Chitrakar said the Press has an important role to play in making the democracy strong and capable.
Central president of Nepal Press Union Sameer Jung Shah, journalist Harihar Birahi and others said the media sector cannot develop until the democracy is institutionalised.
Meanwhile, the Fourth Convention of the Nepal Press Union Lalitpur branch has elected a 13-member new working committee under the chairmanship of Raju Thapa.
