KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Vice-president and Parliamentary party leader, Ram Chandra Poudel has said that it was due to Congress' position that the constitution should be completed only after Maoist party becomes free of arms and combatant, which eased the peace process and subsequently led to an atmosphere conducive to constitution writing.

Speaking at a program organised by NC Tanahu-Kathmandu Liaison Society to mark the New Year 2069 in the capital on Saturday, leader Poudel said the recent nationwide campaign organised by the NC calling for emptying of the cantonments eased the peace process and opened the door to the new constitution.

"The NC's position and leadership took the peace process to a point of no return and develop an atmosphere congenial for the writing of the new constitution", he said.

Likewise, in the contentious issues of the constitution writing too we should not reach to a consensus based on a give and take but on the basis of basic principles of democracy, he added.
