NC prez hugs demands of indigenous groups

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has pledged to embrace all the appropriate demands floated by indigenous groups in the yet-to-be promulgated statute.
“Discussions are underway to address the concerns of indigenous groups,” said Koirala while accepting a seven-point memorandum submitted by Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) on Friday to ensure rights of indigenous community in the new constitution.
The NEFIN has demanded identity-based federalism along with the timely promulgation of the new constitution by ensuring social and economic development of marginalized and minorities groups.
On the occasion, President of NEFIN Raj Kumar Lekhi said the state should bring the indigenous communities in the country's political mainstream by protecting their rights.
