NC prez in bid to placate Deuba

His faction likely to attend CWC meet soon

KATHMANDU: Eight months after senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba-led faction boycotted the Nepali Congress’ Central Working Committee meetings continuously over the internal power-sharing dispute, the Deuba faction is likely to attend CWC meetings within a few days. Party president Sushil Koirala has called the party’s CWC meeting from tomorrow.

After the party establishment agreed to nominate some of Deuba’s supporters in the party’s sister wings — Nepal Student Union, Nepal Tarun Dal and Nepal Mahila Sangh — the Deuba faction is positive on attending the party’s CWC meeting, sources said.

Party president Sushil Koirala phoned Deuba this morning and requested him to attend the party’s CWC meeting from tomorrow, sources said. According to sources, Deuba said he would do so if the issue of appointment in the party’s sister wings was settled.

Koirala then sent a three-member talks-team, comprising General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula and CWC members Arjun Narsingh KC and Chandra Bhandari to Deuba’s residence for talks.

“After an informal meeting, (NC) president proposed to add 10 Deuba supporters in 101-member Nepal Student Union and add four members each to 38-member Nepal Tarun Dal and 38-member Nepal Mahila Sangh from Deuba’s side,” said CWC member Krishna Chandra Nepali.

It is learnt that Deuba had proposed to add 25 members in the NSU from his side.
