NEFIN slams indigenous status for Brahmins‚ Chhetris

KATHMANDU: Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) on Friday has flayed the government decision of registering Brahmins, Chhetris, Thakuris, Dashnamis and Dalits in the indigenous list.
“We will not accept the 11 states sans names and strongly protest the government decision on the registration of the five castes – Brahmans, Chhetris, Thakuris, Dashnamis and Dalits - in the indigenous list which is against the United Nations Declaration of Indigenous Rights,” said NEFIN General Secretary Ang Kaji Sherpa in a statement issued today.
The organisation has announced a three-day bandh staring from Sunday until Tuesday to pile pressure on the government to scrap the decision, threatening that it would continue its protest programmes until the decision is withdrawn.
The government and the Joint Struggle Committee had signed a three-point deal, assuring the latter to address all of its demands yesterday.

I welcome the govt's name to include the above castes as indigenous castes. Overall, i hate the concept of caste; as i feel all the state benefits should be directed towards "economically disadvantaged persons" rather than of a particular caste. But if some idiots think that KHAS bahuns and Chhetris are weaklings and try to oppress us; be assured we are gonna counterattack to quell their doubts. Long live 14 states: Mechi dekhi Mahakali.
