KATHMANDU: Nepal Rafting and Canoeing Association (NRCA) today made public the plans and programmes through annual calender with four tournaments and three training programmes.
The first meeting of the newly-elected executive committee decided to organise the tournaments apart from conducting training programmes in 2012-13, informed the NRCA General Secretary Kumar Ranabhat at a press conference.
The association has planned to hold the Flatwater National Canoeing Championship in Pokhara from September 28-29 after a two-week Flatwater Canoeing Training at the Fewa Lake. “We are expecting around 35 participants in the training scheduled for September 13-27 and the participants of the training will take part in the tournament,” sad Ranabhat.
The rafting and canoeing governing body will also organise the Slalom Wild Water Championship at the Bhotekoshi River from November 30 to December 1 followed by Himalayan Whitewater Challenge at the same venue on December 2-3. Prior to these tournaments, a 10-day closed camp training session will be conducted beginning on November 20. The target number of participants for the training is around 20.
The association also announced the Freestyle and Wild Water Race at the Trishuli River from February 20-21 after conducting the Wild Water Training from January 31 to February 19. NRCA is expecting around 25 participants in the training. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama thanked NRCA for their plans and programmes. “Nepal have a bright future in this sport and we are aiming to make Nepal a centre of tourism sports,” said Lama, who is also the president of the Mountaineering Sports Federation, Nepal.
