CA Chairman Nembang said he was prodding the top leaders of major parties to bring constitution on time.

KATHMANDU: Various political parties including the Joint National People's Struggle Committee-Nepal submitted a 21-point memorandum to Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subash Nembang demanding pro-people constitution on time.

The memorandum containing nearly half million signatures was submitted to the CA Chairman by a team led by committee coordinator and UCPN-Maoist's Secretary CP Gajurel reaching the former's office, Singha Durbar on Monday.

Receiving the memorandum, CA Chairman Nembang said he was prodding the top leaders of major parties to bring constitution on time. He assured the team of presenting the demands to the concerned bodies.

“I fully agree to the demand to have the constitution ensuring all Nepalis' participation,” he said, adding that there was no alternative to promulgating constitution by May 27.

Through the memorandum, the committee demanded identity-based province, autonomy, inclusion, proportional representation, special rights to Muslim, women and Dalit, implementation of ILO 169, and powerful bicameral legislature.

Moreover, the team demanded security in terms of food, education, health, employment, and shelter, compulsory military training to 18 year old Nepalis and the guarantee of press freedom.
